Necro Harvester

Necro Harvester is a 3D top-down combat game created for a solo game jam assignment. The assignment prompt was to create a game based on "high scores." The goal is to survive until dawn breaks (1:30) while eliminating waves of enemies and siphoning their life force. This project helps to show off my skills in tech art, as well as traditional game design theory.

challenge

I wanted to create a game that played around with the relationship between dealing damage and taking damage. Ultimately, I landed on a concept about diverting the player's expectations around combat games—creating a health bar that is constantly dropping, creating a scenario where players are forced to seek battles while managing their health and dealing damage in the process.

I'm quite proud of how this turned out—both from a game design and visual standpoint. I got to experiment with and learn new tools inside Unity to create compelling visuals and effects, while also testing my knowledge of systems design by playing with the fundamentals of combat.
